Critical Reflection

At the start of UCS1001, I had set a goal for myself, which was to improve my communication skills and become a better writer and speaker. Throughout my journey, I did see improvement in my overall communication skills after learning about the Paul Elder framework, I was able to articulate my thoughts and put them into words allowing me to become more confident and outspoken. Looking back, I have always had a reserved personality, which makes it difficult for me to speak in a crowd and keeping silent was more comfortable than giving my opinions. This module gave me the opportunity to step out of my comfort zone and I’ve learnt to voice out my thoughts more and keep my train of thoughts while presenting to a group. I am also more confident in my writing abilities, a method that I found useful is to jot down my thoughts in point form first, before elaborating on the ideas, this way I am able to see if I can find linking pointers and structure my report better. Additionally, I’ve also lea

According to GovInsiders’ article on “How tech can ease the cleaning industry's manpower crunch”(2021), cleaning robots can work symbiotically with cleaners. These cleaning robots focus on “time-consuming, repetitive manual tasks” while the cleaners focus on other complex tasks that robots cannot do like “elevator buttons, bathrooms, and desks”. Whiz, an AI-powered commercial floorcare cleaning robot from SoftBank Robotics, has functions such as sensors to work automatedly, vacuuming, air filtration with HEPA filter and floor disinfection with GERMii’s Ultraviolet-C (UV-C) technology(Softbank Robotics, n.d.). It automates vacuuming so workers can concentrate on things that benefit people. Additionally, not many studies were done on the consequences of using a disproportionate amount of cleaning chemicals that will be “concerning from health, cost, and environmental perspectives”. One solution to tackle such problems is the GERMii’s technology to modify UV-C into a concentrated bea

Descriptive Reflection

Dear Professor Brad, I am Xing He, a first year student in SIT mechanical engineering in your critical thinking and communication module. Prior to this, I studied mechatronics engineering at Nanyang Polytechnic and graduated in 2019. When I was younger, I enjoyed playing with toys like remote controlled cars. However, being a rough and reckless child, caused me to break most of my toys within the first few days. Instead of getting new toys, my parents tried to fix my broken toys and I was fascinated by how they did it with tools that can be found in everyday homes. They showed me different components of the toy cars like the motors and wheels while explaining the functions of each part. This piqued my interest in engineering and I started exploring more forms of innovations from technology like phones and laptops to automotive vehicles like cars and motorbikes.  Our strength grows out of our weakness - Ralph Waldo Emerson My strengths in communication lies in my ability to express my
